FEDMA is very pleased to have attended the 41st International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (ICDPPC) in Tirana, Albania, where members agreed a framework that aims to strengthen the group’s position as an effective international forum.
The conference main theme was global convergence which was discussed under two angles; legislative (convergence based on concept of accountability) and enforcement (more cooperation among national data protection authorities, also with competition authorities). FEDMA members will receive highlights.
Elizabeth Denham CBE, UK Information Commissioner, was confirmed as ICDPPC chair for a further two years. The policy strategy of the ICDPPC for the next two years is based on three pillars: evolution toward global frameworks and standards, greater enforcement cooperation and identifying priority policy themes.
The strategy will be reinforced by an outward looking approach to engaging with stakeholders, in particular civil society, in a new reference panel to be formed in 2020.
