Backed by strong results of GDMA’s latest Global Privacy Study, the GDMA Global Privacy Principles can serve as a principle-based ethical framework for national legislations underpinning different legal cultures globally. This panel will explore whether regulators should pursue a more principle-based legislation to become a fully-fledged “global standard setter”.
Panel II: The “industry effect”: how the industry’s actions can set national and global standards in data protection – 40 min
Industry initiatives are being increasingly developed to sustain user’s trust and adequate levels of data protection. As these principles converge at the international level, the scope of these initiatives becomes applicable regardless of the prescriptive content of “hard law”. This panel will look at the common ground of existing industry initiatives around the world and their contribution to a harmonized data protection culture.
