National Self-Regulation

The Hellenic Association of Communications Agencies (EDEE) puts strong emphasis on ethics of communication, mainly through self-regulation. EDEE has pioneered the field of self-regulation in the country. The Greek Code of Advertising-Communication (Ελληνικός Κώδικας Διαφήμισης – Επικοινωνίας) refers to advertising of all kinds of products and services, as well as all forms of commercial and social communication. The Code sets out the rules of professional conduct and ethical behaviour that must be applied by advertisers and their representatives in regard to consumers. Since 2003 it is operated by the Council of Communication Control founded by EDEE and the Hellenic Advertisers Association (HAA). The Greek Code of Advertising-Communication is binding to all EDEE members.

It is worth mentioning that according to Art. 28 of the Presidential Decree, television entities may be submitted to self-regulation rules (they do so through the Council of Communication Control). Moreover, according to Art. 29 of the Presidential Decree, the National Board of TV & Radio may impose additional penalties.
