New Media Council / E-Commerce Council![]() The New Media Council / E-Commerce Council: E-mail- and online marketing in general has an enormous potential as a marketing medium. However, the problem of spam is giving the e-mail marketing industry a bad name, and is leading to more and harsher laws and regulations around the world. It is imperative that key industry players work together to combat the threats to the industry by following and promoting best practice and respecting consumers’ wishes. It is widely agreed that to solve the problem of spam, all key players, including legitimate e-mail marketers, must be involved. However, to truly have an impact it is important that the industry speaks with one voice. This group will develop industry standards for best practice in e-mail marketing, and work to formulate a common industry position on spam related issues including legal restrictions, certification initiatives, filters and other technological advances and changes in the nature of spam itself. The Council also covers SMS marketing and looks at trade barriers concerning online/email marketing across borders. This Council is set out to discuss ways to combat the problems with spam and also to discuss how we all can promote the various e-business channels.
