EU Projects

FEDMA has in recent years run or been involved in four EU funded projects:

ACTIN
ACTIN stands for Acquis Communautaire Training INitiative. Run in 2004 in the run up to enlargement it was based on the promise that enlargement will affect the postal sector in a number of ways; in addition to the two postal directives, which set out a timetable for the liberalisation of the postal sector, the eastern European postal operators will be affected by a great deal of Internal Market and competition legislation. All of this means these Posts will have to change the way they work. As the name suggested the aim of the ACTIN project was to provide postal operators and stakeholders in Eastern Europe with the knowledge and tools they would require to implement European legislation relating to the postal sector. They would also be taught how to adapt their business practices so they could compete successfully in the enlarged Union. The project worked on a “training the trainers” model; this meant that the people who benefited directly from the ACTIN training sessions would be able to go back to their home countries and businesses and pass on the knowledge they had acquired.

The CCform Project
CCform was initiated in the summer of 2002 and finished in January 2004. CCform aimed to dramatically improve the standards of complaint management to the benefit of consumers and business customers, as well as product and service suppliers. The project worked with about 60 participants to develop a consensus between business, consumers, academics and regulators.

Thanks to support from the European Commission, the project created a recommended business process, supported by an extensible online multi-lingual complaint form and accompanied by a well-researched international legal commentary.

The European Certification Project
This initiative was originally part of the LEONARDO project, co-funded by the European Commission in partnership with universities and training institutes, FEDMA, and national Direct Marketing Associations located in Europe. The project was initiated in October 2000 and received EU funding until December 2001. The project is now continuing without the financial support of the EU.

FEDMA’s role in the project has been to facilitate contact between educators and the industry in order to achieve: assessment of training needs in Europe; development of a framework for a European certification procedure whereby courses in direct marketing, interactive marketing, database marketing, e-business, and CRM, can be assessed on the basis of industry requirements and judged for their high standards, European dimension and industry responsiveness; and creation of a web secion for partners, including relevant case studies, database of tutors, and other useful information for educators and students. The main objective of the project is to help training institutes and universities improve their programmes and make them more responsive to the concerns of our industry.

The European Call Centre Project
Co-funded by the European Commission and coordinated by FEDMA, this project aimed to promote, inform about, and protect the use of the telephone as a marketing medium, by developing a procedure to certify call centre staff at the European level.

The project ended in December 2000 and due to lack of financial support FEDMA has not been able to further develop the project after this date.
