Education & Research Few universities in Europe devote a whole department to direct marketing teaching and research. Direct marketing is mostly a subsection of the general marketing programme, covered by one or several professors undertaking research in new media,internet marketing etc.
Several private or semi public institutes carry out interesting research, mostly in co-operation with academics working both as consultants and university professors.

Belgium Management Centre Europe Management Centre Europe and The Institute of Direct Marketing co-host a course which leads to the IDM Certificate in Direct Marketing. This will give the student an internationally recognised qualification in direct and interactive marketing. The Certificate is taught in 8 modules which focus on the essential principles and best practice of direct marketing that apply to all markets and media, such as principles of database marketing, direct marketing planning and analysis, fundamentals of budgeting direct marketing, etc. The Certificate consists of one week of lectures in Brussels (6-10 August 2001), two individual assignments, and two exams to be taken in December. The Center of DM Excellence is a joint project of Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration (HSEBA) and the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration. It was set up on January 1, 2000, to promote and develop teaching and research in all fields of DM. Mr. Strandvik was nominated as Professor on January 1, 2001. The Center provides courses on both "traditional" and "new" fields of DM, such as interactive marketing and integrated marketing and it is open to students of HSEBA and the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration.
