FEDMA - Federation of European Direct and Interactive marketing

Council Publications

Easy access to information and essential facts on list trading in other European countries is an important factor for conducting and developing international direct marketing activities.
The FEDMA List Council is continuously gathering information in co-operation with the national Direct Marketing Associations. This information is compiled in the List Council Fact Pack.

Together with a number of other FEDMA reports, such as the Global Guide to Robinson Lists/Preference Services, the Legal Fact Pack, and the Survey of Direct Marketing Activities in the European Union, the aim is to provide a broad selection of information needed for research and practical planning of direct marketing activities in Europe and beyond.

The Global Guide to Robinson Lists / Preference Services, 2006

Preference Services offer protection for consumers who do not wish to be contacted by companies for DM purposes.

Most European countries have preference services for mail, phone and/or fax, and some DMAs host preference services also for e-mail or SMS. FEDMA and the U.S. DMA have partnered to conduct a survey with the objective of identifying existing procedures and contact points in many European countries and beyond for individuals to register with preference services lists and for companies to use these lists.

The country-by-country survey also compares the volume of names registered in the different countries.

There are 5 preference services in place for different media:

  • Mailing Preference Service - MPS

  • Telephone Preference Service - TPS

  • Fax Preference Service - FPS

  • E-mail Preference Service - eMPS

  • Mobile/SMS Lists

In certain countries other Preference Services exist for babies, the deceased etc.

The publication is available free for FEDMA members from the restricted area of the website, or can be purchased by non members here.
